Creating Links to HSLS Full Text ArticlesWith the increasing popularity of journal club as a forum for continuing medical education, the electronic journals has become integral for disseminating information. Access to HSLS E-Journals is restricted by license to only the students, faculty and staff of the University of Pittsburgh and UPMC. Failure to comply with license agreements may result in disruption or cancellation of service. In accordance with licenses and copyright, authorized HSLS users may access E-Journals to support personal research, practice, and study. Articles may not be systematically downloaded or posted onto Web site development where the article will become accessible to non-authorized individuals. The acceptable procedure for placing full text article links on University or UPMC departmental Web sites is described below. Please note that access to these articles will be restricted to on-site users (a computer connected to the Pitt or UPMC networks), and will not be available remotely. To create links to article(s) available through any vendor except Ovid, open the article and simply copy and paste the URL of the article to the desired location. The process of linking to articles in Ovid is slightly different. Ovid requires the following jumpstart link:<gateway. ovid.comvidweb.cgi?T=JS& MODE=ovid&PAGE=fulltest &D=ovft&AN=00002257-200020400000003&LOGOUT>. The components of this URL will be identical for every article except the bolded section. The bolded section is the Accession Number for a specific article. To find the Accession Number for an article, open “Journals at Ovid” or follow the links from the HSLS E-Journal list to locate the desired article. From the title display, click on the “Complete Reference” link, and locate the Accession Number at the top of the page. Insert the Accession Number in the jumpstart link between AN=Accession Number&. For further information concerning links to articles, licenses, and copyright restrictions, please contact the Falk Library reference desk at 412-648-8796, or medlibq@pitt.edu. --Laurie Davidson |
