HSLS Thanks Donor
An appreciative group of HSLS staff members and librarians gathered with a local retired physician on September 30 to thank him for his recent $5,000 gift to the Falk Library. The donations, library, who wishes to remain anonymous, lives nearby and has used Falk Library for 15 years.
Describing himself as a "computer innocent," this kind physician appreciates the individualized help he receives from HSLS staff. "People in positions of service, such as librarians, do things every day that are appreciated more than they know. Every now and again, almost randomly, somebody really tries to thank them in a special way. This was the intent of my gift."
This generous retiree acknowledged that librarians and staff members perform their valuable services for patrons not because they expect to be thanked for it, but because they love what they do. His respect for libraries was evident in the brief remarks that he made at the reception. "Librarians are so central to the intelligent functioning of communities and institutions that you have to ask yourself — what better place for philanthropy?"
