HSLS Staff NewsHelen Sobolik has accepted the staff news, December 2004 of circulation specialist at Falk Library. Helen has a BA in Latin American and Spanish Literature from Boston University. Susan Wyssen is the new acquisition specialist at HSLS. Susan holds a BA in Medieval Studies from Smith College, and a MFA in Book Arts from the University of Alabama. PRESENTATIONSMaristella Sabino (IsMeTT/UPMC Italy) and Barbara A. Epstein, HSLS director, co-authored a poster presented at the IX European Conference of Medical and Health Libraries in Santander, Spain on September 24, 2004. The poster was titled "Transplantation of a Health Sciences Library." Barb Folb, Public Health librarian, presented "The Public Health Information Alliance (PHIA): Library Access for Public Health Practitioners" at the Pennsylvania Public Health Association annual meeting in Philadelphia on October 7, 2004. Folb also presented "Evaluating and Addressing the Information Needs of an Urban Public Health Department through an Academic Health Sciences Library/Health Department Partnership" on November 8, 2004 at the American Public Health Association Annual Conference in Washington, DC. Charles Wessel, HSLS coordinator of Affiliated Hospital Services, demonstrated "Responsible Literature Searching for Research: A Self-Paced Interactive Educational Program" at the Association of American Medical College’s (AAMC) Innovations in Medical Education Exhibit, November 7-8, 2004 in Boston. The content will be available soon as a curriculum module titled Responsible Literature Searching (RLS) through the University of Pittsburgh’s Education and Certification Program in Research Practice Fundamentals, available at <http://rpf.health.pitt.edu>. KUDOSMichelle Burda, consumer health librarian, and Deborah Downey, library specialist, Hopwood Library, were recently selected as winners in the Above & Beyond Customer Service Program at UPMC Shadyside. Above & Beyond recognizes staff who transcend job requirements, give more of themselves to help others, and frequently exceed expectations in meeting customer needs. Michele Klein Fedyshin, UPMC Shadyside manager of Library Services, previously received an honorable mention in the Above & Beyond Program. |
