Clinical Xpert: A New Point of Care MICROMEDEX InterfaceThomson recently launched an alternate interface for MICROMEDEX, geared toward access at "point of care." This interface, called Clinical Xpert, includes the same drug information content as the traditional interface, but it is repackaged in a "clinician friendly" design. The navigation tabs and menu present a clean and concise system to find drug information, including disease-specific and alternative medicine information. In the drug monograph menu, drug indications, dosing, regulatory status and generic availability are presented first. Added features such as drug toxicity, clinical teaching, and linked disease information are also available. In both interfaces, the indications and dosing information now includes ratings for efficacy, strength of evidence, and strength of recommendation. Users can switch to the Clinical Xpert interface through a link located in the top right of the traditional MICROMEDEX interface, which can be accessed from the Most Popular menu at <www.hsls.pitt.edu>. --Ahlam Saleh |
