What you can do: Search for information on nuclear genes encoding proteins involved in mitochondrial biogenesis and function.
Highlights:
  • The present release (as of 2004) collects all nuclear genes, so far characterized, encoding for the five large respiratory chain complexes in Drosophila melanogaster, Drosophila pseudoobscura and Anopheles gambiae.
  • In order to contribute to the functional characterization of nuclear genes coding for mitochondrial proteins and to knowledge of gene diseases related to mitochondrial dysfunctions, the gene annotation has been done by taking into account conservation in amino acid sequences, intron/exon structure, intron length, and presence of duplications in the genome.
  • The results of our analyses together with manual and accurate annotation of genome sequences, transcripts, and protein products constitute this new MitoDrome version.
