What Does PHIA Provide?

PHIA provides ACHD employees with access to information from books, journals, and audiovisual materials in the HSLS Libraries. You can come to the libraries, or have materials delivered to you. Reference assistance and training are available to help you make the best use of the resources provided.

Locating Information Sources

To identify books, journals, and audiovisual items in the HSLS libraries, use PITTCat, our online catalog. PITTCat is available on the Internet in two versions, the University Library System PITTCat, and the PITTCat for the Health Sciences version.  Both use the same database but have different search displays.  We recommend the Health Sciences version for ACHD.

To find journals articles on public health topics, use PubMed. PubMed contains citations and abstracts of journal articles in the health sciences disciplines. PubMed will tell you what articles exist, but will not get you to the full-text article in most cases. Have Information Delivered to You

Go to Document Delivery to have a scanned PDF copy of a journal article or book chapter not available from the ACHD Library delivered to you, or to have a circulating book from any University of Pittsburgh library delivered to your office via UPS. Interlibrary loan of books from other libraries is also available if needed.
