...find the coding sequence of a gene?

Question

What is the coding sequence for the chicken FZD1 gene?

Steps
Things to do
1
POINT your browser to the NCBI Entrez Gene Web page.
2
TYPE ėFZD1î in the text search box at the top of the page.
3

Under the text search box, you will find multiple tabs, such as Limits, Preview/Index, History, etc. CLICK the Limits tab.
4
SELECT ėGene Nameî from the drop down menu near the top of the page to limit your search.
5
From Limit by Taxonomy SELECT ėGallus gallusî to further narrow your search.
6
CLICK the GO button next to the text search box at the top of the page.

7

You will be taken to the Entrez Gene page for frizzled homolog 1, FZD1. LOCATE the section titled Genomic regions, transcripts, and products to find the mRNA RefSeq name (NM_001030337.1).
8

CLICK on NM_001030337.1 and SELECT ėGENBANKî to go to the Entrez Nucleotide entry for chicken FZD1.
9
CLICK on Features, located near the top of the page underneath the RefSeq name.

Result
  • The FZD1 coding sequence is indicated to the left of the heading CDS.
  • CLICK on CDS to be taken back up to the top of the page.
  • The coding sequence is now also located at the top of the page next to the heading ėRangeî.
  • SELECT ėFASTAî from the drop down menu next to Display to see the mRNA sequence restricted to the coding region of chicken FDZ1.
