In addition to the resources provided by HSLS, faculty, staff, and students at the University of Pittsburgh and UPMC also have access to many databases and e-journals provided by the University Library System (ULS), some of which are relevant to biomedical and health-related topics.

Remote Access to ULS Databases

Access to ULS databases is based on IP range. Your computer must be directly connected to the University of Pittsburgh or UPMC* network.

ULS databases are not available through HSLS Remote Access, but they are available to students, faculty, and staff affiliated with the University of Pittsburgh who have a valid University Computer Account. You have the option of either using the Secure VPN service or dialing in to the PittNet network using a modem.

Pitt users can call the Computing Services help desk at 412-624-HELP [4357] for assistance with the Secure VPN and dial-up connections.

*If you are on the Oakland/Shadyside campus of UPMC, you should have access to most ULS databases (but not all will work). If you are at a UPMC community hospital, you might get into some ULS resources, but many will not work because of licensing restrictions. UPMC users have access to ULS databases, but may have to come to Falk or WPIC library to use them if they do not work from your location.

Assistance with ULS Databases

For questions or research assistance, consult any ULS Library. For technical problems with these resources, contact the Hillman Library Reference Desk (412-648-3330).
