Curriculum-Integrated Instruction
Reference librarians are available to provide curriculum-integrated instruction in information skills and information literacy as part of courses offered in the schools of the health sciences. This instruction could be in the format of a presentation, paper handouts, or Web resources. A liaison librarian is assigned to each of the schools and is available to meet with interested faculty to design library-based assignments and instruction.
Instruction for Departments and Other Groups Classes or brief presentations can be customized by HSLS faculty librarians to target resources and skills of interest to specific departments or other groups. For a list of possible topics, please see the list of class descriptions. A faculty librarian can consult with you to develop a special class to fit your needs.
Please give as much advance notice as possible when requesting customized instruction. Depending on the content requested, it may take 12 weeks to develop your class.
Web-Based Support
HSLS faculty librarians can design customized Web pages to support your assignments and course objectives. These guides can include:
- links to selected full-text journal articles;
- links to database search results based on search strategies developed by librarians;
- links to chapters in electronic textbooks;
- links to major online reference books;
- links to authoritative Web resources; and
- guidance in using information resources effectively.
Most online library resources are available to students whether on or off campus.
For more information, contact the reference department at medlibq@pitt.edu or 412-648-8796. Alternatively, you may wish to contact the liaison librarian for your school or department directly.
