Pathway Analysis Tools 1

This workshop will introduce open access and commercial biological pathway informatics tools. Major emphasis will be given to:

  • NIH DAVID: a comprehensive set of functional annotation tools for investigators to understand biological meaning behind large list of genes (The Database for Annotation, Visualization and Integrated Discovery)
  • Ingenuity Pathways Analysis (IPA): a Web-based mammalian biology knowledgebase and analysis tool used for drug discovery and genomic data analysis
  • Protein Lounge Pathway Builder 2.0: tool for drawing signal transduction pathways

Participants will learn how to:

  • Identify biological interactions among genes of interest
  • Connect two molecules with the shortest possible path
  • Import a list of genes to arrange into a pathway
  • Import Affymatrix gene expression results and display as both a heat map and a pathway map
  • Find common upstream and downstream regulators of a gene
  • Display array results according to subcellular localization
  • Create signal transduction pathways for presentation
  • Find statistically over-represented transcription factor binding sites in differentially expressed genes

This class is approved for AMA Category 2 CME credit.
