In August 2006, Falk Library was excited to announce a new option for studying in the library, four group study rooms located on the library’s upper floor. To meet student demand, four additional group study areas were added in 2013. A popular destination, the rooms were used over 2,500 times by Pitt health sciences students totaling over 8,000 usage hours.
As an important part of the library experience, updated group study rooms were a “must have” for the new library space. As currently planned, six state of the art group study rooms, located on both floors of the library, will be available for health sciences students as part of the West Wing expansion and library renovation project.
However, to create the exciting new spaces, parts of the library will need to be closed as the Scaife Hall Auditoriums 5 and 6 are being demolished and the West Wing addition rises in its place. The last day to use the current library group study rooms will be July, 28. The rooms' booking system has been updated to note the last day of availability.
Also closing in July is the 1st floor group study area across from the Library Director’s office. The tables currently housed in this area will be moved to the 1st and 2nd floor of the library along with new display options.
