Collection Overview

History of medicine collection includes more than 10,000 books supporting the research in the historical aspects of health professions, medical education and research, military medicine and ethics, diseases, development of drugs and therapies, hospital care, epidemiology, substance abuse, medical care and policy. It contains biographies, memoirs and personal narratives of doctors and scientists active in the health related research. The circulating collection has also numerous facsimiles and reprints of important medical text in lieu of originals which if owned would have the rare book and special collection restriction on the use. Materials in the history of medicine collection are temporarily in storage and not available to be lent via interlibrary loan, photocopied or scanned like the books from the general collection. The collection is being kept current through gifts and regular purchasing of newly published books.
