Deciding which journal to submit your manuscript can be a daunting task. This class will cover some of the resources and tools used in the selection process, as well as important criteria to consider when evaluating the quality of a journal. Topics will include the different publishing models (subscription and open access), copyright and licensing, peer review, and funder policies that may affect journal selection. Students, faculty, and staff are all welcome to attend.
After this class, participants will be able to:
- Describe how to put your manuscript into a framework to identify relevant journals.
- Assess the quality of a journal based on factors such as journal operations, discoverability, transparency, and trustworthiness.
- Explain the harm and impact of predatory journals.
