Research metrics can be a useful way to analyze the academic impact of articles, authors, and journals. Come learn about Pitt's toolbox of resources and how research metrics, such as h-index and journal impact factor, can be used in the research assessment process. Whether you're interested in knowing who is citing your work or how to add additional value to grant applications, we'll discuss how metrics can be used responsibly to track research productivity and impact. Students, faculty, and staff are all welcome to attend.

Upon completing this class, you should be able to:
  • Define research impact and describe the benefits of using research metrics.
  • Identify core metrics on the article, author, and journal level and describe how they are calculated.
  • Explain the limitations of different metrics and how to use them responsibly.
