Gesellschaft Deutscher Naturforscher und Ärzte (GDNÄ). The Society of German Natural Scientists and Physicians was founded in 1822 by the physician and natural philosopher, Lorenz Oken. Since the beginning, it was an important forum for fundamental debates in medicine and science. Among the scientists who shaped the society are such personalities as Alexander von Humboldt, Hermann von Helmholtz, Carl Gustav Carus, Albert Einstein and Max Planck. Joseph Daniel Boehm (1794-1865) Austrian medallist Joseph Daniel Boehm (1794-1865) Austrian medallist and sculptor. From 1825 he devoted himself to medallic work. He worked as the first imperial medallist in Vienna, and later as a teacher and for several years as director of the Engraving Academy in Vienna. (Forrer 7, 87)

Obverse

A semi-nude bearded male, personifying Danube, holding oar in left hand, seated three-quarters to right, his head to left, crowning with right hand the Tyche of Vienna, who is seated beside him, resting left arm on shield; on ground by his foot, BOEHM ∙ F.; in background at right, stern of boat; in curve at left and right, VINDOBONA PHYSIOLOGIS; in exergue, MENSE SEPTEMBRI / MDCCCXXXII in two lines; the whole within a beaded circle.

Reverse

Within a wreath, a word of greeting in Greek letters, XAIPEIN [CHAIREIN]; the whole within a beaded circle.
