Sébastien Gaétan-Salvador Maxime Des Guidi (1769-1863) earned a medical degree at the University of Strasburg in 1820. He became Professor of Mathematics at Lyon and Marsailles in 1801. In 1828, he consulted homeopaths in Naples on behalf of his ill wife, who was then cured. After studying homeopathy with these clinicians, Guidi returned to Lyon, France in 1830 and spent the rest of his life advocating for homeopathy. His book, Letter to the Physicians of France, was translated into English in 1834, and was one of the first books on homeopathy published in the United States.
