Blocks -- Ungapped segments in conserved protein sequences

What you can do:
Search for ungapped segments corresponding to the most highly conserved regions of proteins.
Highlights:
  • The Blocks Database consists of blocks constructed from documented families of related proteins by the automated PROTOMAT system.
  • As of 2002, it contains 11,853 blocks representing 2,608 protein families documented in InterPro and Prints.
  • The tools such as Block Searcher, Get Blocks and Block Maker are aids to detection and verification of protein sequence homology. They compare a protein or DNA sequence to a database of protein blocks, retrieve blocks, and create new blocks, respectively.
Keywords:
  • protein sequence alignments
  • protein blocks
  • conserved protein sequences
  • protein motifs
  • protein homology
  • phylogenetic analysis
